Exterior wall unsafe in 5 year old property, Help please.

Hi.

We are the second owners of a 4 bed detached on a new build estate. The house is 5-6 years old and as it is an end detached has a side wall going round the side of our garden which backs on to a footpath/pavement.

The wall is constructed of vertical pillars of brick about 2 metres high and in the middle there are wooden fence panels. There are other houses on the estate built by different developers (the estate was sold in parts to 4 developers) that dont have this problem but they're walls are keyed together, they still have the large brick pillars but insteas of just fence panels connecting them they have at least 8 rows of brick tieing the walls and beams together.

The problem is that these pillars are now unstable. You can physically move them by leaning on them with your hand and I am fearful that in high winds, or some other scenario they could fall.

I have been told that the NHBC does not cover exterior walls but for a £250 k house you dont expect this to happen after not even 6 years

The builders is Taylor Wimpey if it makes any difference

Do i have any recourse I can take to avoid me shelling out to have the wall made safe and/or constructed properly as per the other houses on the estate.

Appreciate any help/advice

Many thanks

Have you spoken to the builders?

Not yet no. I wanted to know my rights before I spoke to them as we had a run in with them before over a "service strip" which they had not completed as per the plans, we had to get the council involved before the road was adopted before they would take any action as the builders response was always one of "the house was signed off so our part is done"

The title of your thread confused me - I'd have said that an exterior wall would be one of the outside walls of the house itself. You seem to be talking about a garden wall.

I am surprised that the wall is so unstable after a few years. I've seen lots of walls built that way, so I don't think that it should be unsafe if built properly, and I think it wouldn't be unreasonable to expect the builder to put it right. Have you spoken to a solictor about it?

Sorry Tyllwyyd you're right I am talikng abot the garden wall. I just mentioned exterior because it was on the outside not one of my interior walls.
As per my other posts Ive not spoken to anyone yet other than a friend who is a builder who told me rather than pay someone to try the developers first as the other walls on the estate (some of them) are built more suitable with tied in bricks as opposed to mine.
