any carers allowance recd will be deducted from I.S . But you will receive a C.A premium included in you I.S . So you will overall be better off by about £20 odd quid .0

Carers allowance is £46.95 and the carer's premium is £26.35, so if you're currently getting more than £20.70 Income Support, you'd still get Income Support after CA was awarded (Your £20.70 IS would increase by £26.35 for the carer premium, but also reduce by £46.95 leaving you with 10p IS) which means you'd still get the same HB and CTB as now.
Even if IS did stop (say you get £20.00 at present) you'd still end up better off, as the excess over the IS level is tapered by 65%, so if you ended up £20 better off in terms of income, your HB would reduce by £13 leaving you with £7 extra. CTB has a 20% taper so your £20 extra would reduce CTB by £4.
Ultimately you'd be £3 a week better off in this situation, or £156 a year.0 -
