MAC, Harvey Nicholls in Edinburgh

I was in Edinburgh yesterday and decided to pop into the Harvey Nicholls to go to the MAC counter. (I normally spend ages drooling over their website but unfortunately the colours are not always a true representation - another gripe!)
Anyway, the stand wasn't too busy to I went over to the lipstick area to have a look. After standing around for 10 minutes I tried to catch one of the assistants attention. After the usual sigh and huffing and puffing she came over.
I asked this question 'Hi, I'm looking for a red lipstick but I'm unsure which ones will suit my skin tone, can you recommend any?'
She looked at me, then stated 'theres loads of reds there just browse'
She then looked at her nails in a bored fashion and went over to her friends to gripe about working :mad:.
Now MAC cosmetics aren't exactly cheap so I just wanted a little bit of advice. I was so annoyed that I just walked out. I hope the little madam works on commission as with that attitude she won't make much money.
Are all MAC counters as bad?

Only if you're over 30 and don't look like a Barbie Doll. You're not as likely to buy a ton of stuff in their reckoning, so you'renot worth the effort.
But it is most counters, not just MAC.
My source? The fact that I get spoken to like a pos if I'm not scrubbed up, but treated fine if fully made up.I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0 -

I'm only 22 :rotfl:
Definetely don't look like a barbie doll but I wasn't 'bad' looking either. Had the usual foundation, blush and mascara on.
Oh well.0 -
I love MAC makeup, they were very helpful to me and my Mum, and by far we aren't Barbie dolls..
I definitely suggest making a formal complaint to the Harvey Nichols store, even better, do it infront of her manager while she's working. After all, you are paying for the service and quality of makeup that NEVER goes in the sale - you expect a little respect..
Besides, when you complain to management they generally grovel at your feet and offer you champagne while you browse, or discretionary 10% discount. It's worth a shot!Good luck!!!

My mum has had the same issue in Harvey Nichols in Edinburgh, she is a very well dressed lady in her 50s. She finds the MAC assisstants very snooty and unhelpful, so much so that she doesn't even bother trying to buy anything there anymore. She takes her custom elsewhere. The trouble with the world is that the stupid are cocksure and the intelligent are full of doubt.Bertrand Russell0

Unfortunately the store is a little way away from me so I cannot really get there easily. I have however, sent an email to Harvey Nichols explaining the situation and asking if they could forward my complaint on to the relevant manager.
I can't find a contact email address for MAC though.
I wonder why make up counter people seem to think their better than everyone else?0 -

In the drop down box there's the option to comment about "Service at a MAC counter or store".
I usually use the counter in Selfridges in Birmingham and find the staff on there a bit snooty and disinterested.0 -

Maybe you look so young, they don't think you could have the money to spend. Still worth a complaint, IMO. I've complained at Clinique about an overpainted hag chasing my DD away when she wanted to buy my birthday present and some makeup for herself.
The boss told me as a junior makeup counter person, he had been told to get rid of people that didn't look wealthy until a 15 year old came in and spent hundreds, still wearing her school uniform. Her name? Miss K Moss.
The overpainted hag wasn't at the counter next time I visited.I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0 -
