Roller Wanted

No not the car I'm looking for a roller to apply masonry paint to a rough cast surface. I've tried the Harris masonry paint roller but it did could not manage to apply the paint sufficiently well.

A helful painter indicated I needed a roller with a thicker or longer pile but could not advise where to get one. I ended up applying the paint with a brush which took quite some time and left me looking like an extra for Planet of the apes.:)

Just wondering if anyone was able to provide any recommendations or suggestions .

Have you tried Leyland SDM?

I've seen these maybe in Homebase or similar 'masonry roller', however I'm not sure how well they would go into roughcast. You need the heaviest pile available probably. Have you tried ebay etc? I find ebay great for finding random things!

steer clear of diy store stuff - they are usually rubbish

when painting rough surfaces it's best to add a drop of water to stop it from "mud cracking" and also don't do the painting in the full sun - you will get drying lines and it will look minging

Great minds - I have to confess I have checked e-bay before posting - the only ones I could find were the same as the one I've got.Thanks for the tip - I'll keep monitoring just in case though.

You've hit the nail on the head in that the standard rollers i have bought are just not up to the job. The screwfix model greatly interests me and I think I'll give it a go.

Thanks also for the water and sun tips as I do not want to have to repaint for quite a few years if I can avoid it.

If its for rough outside walls you need a sheepskin roller. Im painting mine at the moment and the rough outside walls were a nightmare until i tried the sheepskin (still takes much longer than inside walls)

i actually discovered this thread googling to see if you can buy mini sheepskin rollers cos using brushes is painfully slow and difficult even on small areas around the doors and things.

the one from screwfix is ideal to do masonry with, the bigger the pile the better and you cant go wrong with Hamilton
