Glide Utilities - Cheap or Not?
Options
Hi there,
I'm a student moving into my second year accommodation on the 1st of a July, its a one bedroom property that i'll be living in with my girlfriend. Obviously I want to try and get everything sorted before we get there so im starting to worry a bit about electricity and other utilities.
I've been looking at Glide as an energy supplier - they say they can provide us Gas, Electricity and Water for £15.50 per person per week. Now the gas and electricity is based on useage, but when I rang them up to ask about pricing they said that 90% of students with them ended up getting a refund at the end of the year.
I want to know if this is going to work out cheaper than just sticking with a standard energy provider. I use my computer quite excessively (its on around 16-18 hours a day, has a 550 watt power supply so probably uses about 350 watts on average), so im worried it will end up costing me more if I go with a standard electricity tariff. I figured that glide must be making their money by purchasing energy in bulk discounted and selling it on.
I'll be living in the Leeds area if that helps.
Any insight would be appreciated!

You'll end up paying for what you use ...
The annoying thing is that they don't list their prices per kw/h on their site anywhere that I can see so I have no idea how much i'll end up paying or if its worth going with them. If their prices are cheap it might be worth staying with them, but otherwise I might be better off going for a cashback deal with someone else. What would you recommend?0 -
As I understand it, they don't have any prices as it will depend on which supplier/tariff is appointed to supply you. i.e. they don't supply themselves. Water, for example, can only be supplied by one supplier.
Other bills they can include are countil tax and TV licence - again only one source for each of those.

I suggest you find the best deal yourself (difficult I accept without knowing what your annual consumption is likely to be) with a licensed supplier but at least you'll be able pocket any cashback for yourself. Regular monthly payments can be set up, and there are some fixed tariff deals if that is what you prefer (but of course you will still be charged based on consumption - it's only the unit prices, standing charges etc that are fixed)"Now to trolling as a concept. ....
