recorded delivery problems

I have decided to send all my ebay listings recorded if possible.

However, I am finding that the royal mail tracking isn't very accurate. Two items (shirts) that I sold it is still showing haven't been delivered they were posted 6/4 - however buyers have left feedback so I assume that all is well.

Third item, a 9ct gold trace chain (fairly inexpensive £15) buyer insisted on only sending recorded not special delivery.

My other jewellery listings went special as I used to work in a jewellers and therefore know that royal mail do not insure jewellery. I put this on the listing - but did agree with the buyer that £6 for special delivery was a joke for a £15 item. Recorded cost about £1.50.

Now that item won 12/4 and posted same day has also failed to be delivered. The buyer is being patient as I explained that royal mail won't do anything for 15 working days. However, I'm thinking about just refunding them anyway.

Would you take the hit, I can't claim from royal mail because it is jewellery.

I just refunded them, basically to avoid receiving negative feedback.:(

I agree, recorded delivery isn't very reliable these days.

Rule one : never ever let your buyers dictate to you.

Recorded though is fairly useless, nothing in my area ever tracks to delivery so it is not worth paying the additional 74p.

You will have to refund on anything that the buyer says has not arrived and where you cannot prove the opposite regardless of what postal method you used. I usually try to get my buyers to wait until week 2 but then i send a full refund.
