Going to Orlando without a car...?

Get a Lynx bus, they are selling tickets online so you can buy them before you leave:

https://www.golynx.com/?fuse=shop&app=store&view=details&ProdID=40&category=

You can also check out where the bus goes and at what time to be well prepared for your journey before you leave.

https://www.golynx.com/?fuse=cstm&app=route

Buses go to the transportation centre at the Magic Kingdom where you get the monorail. May be easier then getting the shuttle buses and, as almost everyone else drives, the buses tend to be empty and air conditioned.

One day we used it there was just one other family on the bus - and they came from 8 miles up the road. Very odd!!

Odd post as you don't mention accommodation

If you are going to orlando without a car, the best place to stay is International Drive. You won't need a car if you stay there - lots of restaurants on your doorstep (or a ride on the I trolley), shops at one end, Sea World at the other, a short cab ride to universal and shuttle buses to Disney from most hotels.

I am not sure why it is odd. I posted this after reading someone else saying they were staying on ID and was planning on using the i-ride for everything.

Shuttle Buses can take forever, if you can get a seat. It is always handy to go on holiday with plans just in case. Our hotel had one shuttle bus and if it was full you could not get on!! The Lynx tickets takes you all over for a good price IMO.

It is cheaper to book yourself or maybe people are staying elsewhere. Last time we stayed in Celebration and the Lynx buses were a godsend, absolutely no need for a car. Hardly anyone uses the buses and unless getting caught in the 'rush hour' you get a seat. Even then you usually get a seat as everyone drives.

We have timeshare and are staying in International Drive one week and Disney
Resorts the other 2, we will not be using a car. We will use the Lynx again if we have to and would not rely on shuttle buses that go to other hotels and takes forever to get there.

Best place to stay if not driving IMO is somewhere on/near the 192, their are a good number of bus stops going to the Transportation Centre, eating places, shopping, Wal-Mart and for getting to and from Int Drive.

Lynx (State owned transport) aint all you make it out to be - it does not make travel easy, and unless you are lucky to live on the route that goes to where you want you are stuck.

Downtown Orlando from my house = 25 min drive
by Lynx = 4 busses and over 2 hours travel!

You could say that wherever you live. Next town from where I used to live was a 10-15 minute drive, however, by bus it was a very dire 2 hour journey. Likewise where I am now, 15 minutes by car and 90 minutes by bus - after getting to town which is another half an hour.

However, as you are in Orlando we was in Radission Celebration so go the bus on the corner of Celebration (by the intersection) - you know how many stops that is on the 192 to MK - but the 'free' shuttle bus took an astounding 1 hour as it went all around other hotels. IF you can get on the shuttle bus.

People should be aware that there are alternatives and having the maps makes it easy to see where the stops are and if you are on a bus route that you can get that journey by bus for a relatively low cost. In the 2 weeks we was there we never had a single problem with the buses and got a seat every time, and it was airt conditioned and the shuttle wasn't. We was happy to pay for that.

We spent less on taxi's/bus fares than we would have done on car hire - and that is before starting on parking and fuel costs we would have also incurred.

But you got less from your holiday due to waiting/travelling on buses and went to fewer places because many of the excellent things to see/do are too far/too awkward for you to get to on public transport.

But, as I was saying, if you do not look at the maps then you will never know will you.

We would never have known we was the last stop before MK if we had not looked on the map. And no $14 parking fee to pay to park the car as well if you get the bus.

And the hours on the shuttle bus was not an hour wasted for us....? We certainly do not feel that we had wasted time on holiday unless you count the first day on that damn 'free shuttle'.

Not everyone wants to go on holiday and drive. We certainly don't? If we thought anything was too far away or we could not be bothered to wait for the bus (happened twice, one time late at night and another time when it was chucking it down) then we got a cab. We certainly saved money by not getting a car anyway. Probably spent around £250 in a week half cabbing/half bussing it.

Never hurts for people to check the map to see how far they are away from the MK. 25 minutes from i-drive to WDW is not that far. probably takes 15 minutes to park the car and get the trolley on a busy day in the MK anyway - maybe longer.

I'd say the best place to stay is LBV if you aren't driving, plenty of restaurants and bars you can walk to and most of the hotels have courtesy buses to Disney that aren't full.
Its not that we have more patience as we grow older, its just that we're too tired to care about all the pointless drama ;)

OK - heres some Ideas and thoughts -

Use Public transport but get a hire car for a few days to do other stuff. (Enterprize will collect you and take you back after you drop the car)

After paying $80 for a Disney ticket do you really want to spend upto 2 hours waiting for busses? If you plan 8 hours in WDW you just waisted ¼ of your day waiting for a bus, as if standing in line for the rides was not enough time wasting.

Magic Kingdom parking can be free - ask me how?

cbrown - yes LBV is best for Dismal World (oops sorry speling error!!!) but here in Florida it aint all "House of Mouse"!

Wekiwa Springs State Park + Other state parks - http://www.floridastateparks.org/
    De Leon Springs
    Dead River
    Daytona/Cocoa/New Smyrna Beaches
Titusville (near Kennedy Space Center - Dixie Crossroads Seafood = GREAT - all you can eat Rock Shrimp - Mmmmmmmmm! ! ! ) = wrth the drive to Titusville alone!
    Citrus Tower
    Air Boat Rides
    Native American Indian Reservations
    Gatorland
    Dinosoar World
    Fly in a WWII fighter.
    Paracute
    Hard Rock Live/Cafe/Hotel/Casino (all different)

No matter what - you really do need a car to see the real Florida.

if you can drive and have a licence then hire a car, US is the easiest place to drive.

That way you arent stuck in what has to be the one of the worst place in the world, my tip to anyone who visits orlando, do the parks and get out of there, there is so much more to America than costa del orlando. :)
