Best way/currency to send to Israel?

Hi all

I need to send a reasonable amount of money, currently in sterling, to a relative in Israel.

Due to the current travails of the pound is there any advantage converting it to a different currency e.g. $US and then converting it to the local currency when it gets there, or will that just mean 2 lots of conversion charges?

Any advice much appreciated
