Barclaycard/Card Protection Plan

Let me start by saying, GRRRRRRRRR!

[various expletives deleted!]

So, 3 years ago I took out payment/lost card protection from Card Protection Plan (CPP).

I setup payment by Direct Debit and cancelled that DD mandate before the plan was due to renewal.

In response to this, CCP decided to take payment from a credit card ("chosen at random" from my insured cards) for £70, another 3 years' cover. Apparently their Ts & Cs say they're allowed to do this.

The card they chose to take payment from was a Barclaycard that had been cancelled 2 years ago.

Barclaycard say they cannot stop payments being process on cancelled cards.

CPP say it's in their Ts & Cs so **** you. (Ok, that's not quite what they said, I'm paraphrasing.) CPP very graciously (*ahem*) offered to refund me 2 years' protection worth £41 (that's for the years 2011 and 2012) but refused to do anything about the remaining £29.

I'm not very happy with this. My main gripes being
a) Barclaycard put through a transaction on a card cancelled 2 years previously
b) Knowing that I'd cancelled the DD, CPP "randomly" (yes, that's what they said) chose to charge an expired/cancelled card
c) CPP won't let me cancel their cover for another 12 months

Is the offer CPP have made me as good as it's going to get or is it worth me taking this further?

(And I'll make a mental note not to take out any cover again!)

    Hi there

Sorry to hear this and I'm sure someone will get back to you who have experience in banking.

But like any other complaint they have 8 weeks to respond in full, if they don't resolve this to your satisfaction, you should be able to have this investigated by the Financial ombudsman service, or whatever direction you want to take this if not resolved.

Check out the FOS site here for further information:
    http://www.financial-ombudsman.org.uk/consumer/complaints.htm

Also wait for others views on this as well hun, but good luck hope it gets sorted out soon.;)

It is clearly stated in the terms and conditions. They make a big deal about it on the phone, written media and their website.

Do you know where the Ts & Cs are?

http://www.cpp.co.uk/cpfaqs.html links to http://www.cpp.co.uk/tandc/termsAndConditionsUKCardPlus.pdf but I can't find any reference to it there.

That's bizarre, the online ones don't match the ones they sent me in the post. Just read that link twice, definitely no mention of it in there. It does say it in my customer area though, as well as the paper copy of the terms they sent me!

credit where it's due, I sent a letter complaining to CPP on Monday, and I've got a reply today saying that they will refund the full £70. (Yes, 4 days, all by snail mail!)
