4 week run on working tax credit

Options
This is the most absurd thing I've ever heard from the tax credits

My partner had a stroke earlier this year, and as a result has been on SSP since. SSP ended 2 weeks ago. He then had to put a claim in for IB and IS. IB said the claim would take up to 6 weeks to sort out even though I posted the application several weeks before SSP ended. IS said they can't pay as my partner is entitled to a four week run on of working tax credit. I thought great, bit more cash for a couple of weeks or so, but how wrong I was! WTC have said that teh four week run on is not what the name suggests. Anyone reading that literally would think WTC runs on for four weeks, but no WTC have to make it real complicated, they stop your WTC immediately, and you have to wait up to 6 weeks to get your run on in a lump sum!! How absurd is that!! Apparently there is no time scale and you will get it when they have worked it out. As the only source of income I would have had would have been CTC I called IB and got a very sympathetic lady who said she would get my partners claim for IB sorted as soon as possible and in fact I would like to praise them because it got sorted the very next day. But i'm still waiting for the so called four week run on........

  • The run on is processed seperately from your "normal" WTC as it doesnt count as part of your regular entitlement.

In theory it should only take a few days to process the WTC run on - you can blame the Government for paying off so many civil servants for the massive backlogs on TCO processing.
  • Im in the same position as you...i finished work and made a claim for IS, went for an interview and was told i couldnt have it as I was going to get a tax credit run on, meanwhile 3 weeks down the line no sign of the money. I cant have IS, HOUSING BENEFIT,FREES SCHOOL MEALS, because the run on is classed as an income...tho ive had no money in my pocket! When I ring they say its going to be proccesed but manually and takes time...it's a joke. I would rather get my IS and other benefits sorted straight away and then my tax credits go to the benefits dept.
