hi guys

i'm looking at buying my first car which will be used so this is all new to me. i've driven a company car years ago but not owned my own car. i'm 47 and have a budget for the car of £2500.

Audi A3 1.6 3dr
Citroen C4 1.6i 3dr
Volkswagen Polo 1.4 3dr
SEAT Ibiza 1.4 16v Sport 3dr
Ford Focus 1.6 Zetec 3dr
Suzuki Swift 1.6 Sport 3dr
Suzuki Swift 1.3 GL 3dr

or any other suggestions?

audi would be the first choice but i guess that might come with higher service costs overall?

Do you want a supermini or a 5 door hatchback? Different things.
Also, what is your annual mileage?
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

You can buy a good condition RX8 for around £2.5k. Cheap as chips, goes like stink and Japanese reliability

What kind of journeys? If its just the odd weekends and trips away it may be cheaper in the long run just to rent one when you need it.

it would be used most days but not for long commutes. 3dr is just my preference i guess as it is pretty much only me that'll be using it. i've thought of doing the car rental thing before but haven't got a car rental place nearby. nearest is 15miles away :(

    Reliability - RX8 - really ?

Think not.....not doubt you will be pursuaded into buying a 14 year old Almera soon.

I would buy a petrol 8th Gen Civic.

Yep, 1.8 or 1.4 petrol would be ideal with your mileage, annual service and an interim oil change and they'll go on forever. Avoid the diesel on your mileage.

RX8 is reliable, it's a Mazda. As long as you change the oil regularly and top it off once in a while, these cars are bullet proof
