Halifax Clarity Foreign Exchange Rates on MSE

Options
When I used to go to travel money maximiser the usual cheapest rate for getting my euros listed first was the previous days Halifax Clarity rate ... always way better than everybody else. This seems to have been taken down! Am I right? Is it somewhere else on here? If it is no longer being made available through MSE where should I go to see this rate as it is currently published. It is not obvious on the actual Halifax Bank website. Any help appreciated.

The “clarity rate” is just the Mastercard rate

Halifax Clarity uses Mastercard's exchange rate, which can be found here: https://www.mastercard.co.uk/en-gb/consumers/get-support/convert-currency.html.

yes thank you for that Snow Tiger. I got it to work and it doesn't surprise me that it's the best rate available anywhere making the comparisons I can see on MSE. A big pity though that the Halifax Clarity rate has been removed from the comparison table on here. I repeatedly tell people who don't know about how the Clarity Mastercard works and how withdrawing money from cashpoints abroad for no charge, the best rate, a bit at a time and just a little interest charge that you can avoid by transferring money across in my case to Halifax from my current or savings account. Or using the card to pay in local currency and again incurring no charges. Get the card ....LOOK AFTER IT ... and leave the actual cash in the bank account until you need it!!!!

It wasn't really of any use though was it? It was yesterday's rate, and the rate you get for a withdrawal made today will be the rate it will be up to 2 days from now.

You know you will get the MasterCard rate because they tell you in condition B2.3 (where they also tell you they'll convert at the rate applicable when they post it to your account).

I consider it a logical move, as it was not appropriate in a list of best choices for exchanging cash. Many people were confused, some posting here about it, thinking they could go to buy cash with their Clarity card from an exchange bureau and obtain that MasterCard rate..!

Take your point dicky. It's not difficult to confuse people these days!!!! But I think in actually reading and understanding what Martin and MSE publishes specifically about these plastic cards and Clarity in particular ... that we have to be able to get by application and assessment ... people need to understand that this is ALWAYS the best rate without any charges or disadvantages attaching for getting cash in your hand when abroad , if you clear your plastic debt on a monthly basis and don't treat it as an extended loan and incur interest as we would usually. The current rates quoted for picking up cash here at bureaux de change are all worse than the current Mastercard rate ....always have been ...hope they will be in future. I got my answer as to where I could easily see the information I wanted. I'm happy. If others don't want the best deal that I can get then that's the choice they make .....

Halifax clarity is one of the best but not the Best.

For cash withdrawal in foreign currensies, Debit card with no fee for withdrawal in foreign currentcies is still better than Halifax clarity. There are a few of them depends on where you want to go.

For purchase is a credit that give you the cash back for foreign purchase.

Not always. I sometimes find the wholesale Visa rates are better than the wholesale Mastercard rates (for major currencies EUR, USD) and vice versa. This is from comparing forex transactions on my MBNA Everyday Visa card & on my Clarity card. Not much in it though. Swings and roundabouts...

There is no fee for drawing money out of the wall anywhere I've been in recent years ..... France, Spain, Hong Kong, Thailand, Italy, Portugal, Austria ....on Halifax Clarity. To suggest otherwise is incorrect.....your own debit card might well work the same but until you actually show me evidence that there is a better rate with no charges at all attaching then the Clarity rate is always the best for me and most others ....for whatever reason.

Well, it is not my intention to convince you, but just correction of the statement you have made on this thread as this forum is also read by other people.

Many people who you frequetly see have interest in foreign cash withdrawal topics know that using a specialist "debit cards" with Master Card logo in it will give you the same or even a better result if you consider the fact you do not need to bother about the interest that might incur if you do not mitigate it. I myself have Halifax Claritycard but I just use it as a back up for cash withdrawal because I have a better mean for cash withdrawal in foreign currencies.

Also Use your Halifax Clarity Card in Spain cash machines, you might get surprised what you get.

There is also a few mobile base apps such as "Bo" etc that use Visa exhange rate. it might still be better if you consider you do not need to bother to mitigate the interest.
