I've found out i have been overpaying my rent. My income officer said i have 400 in my rent account. Just wondering that because i can request it back, will it be counted as my capital if i just leave it in my rent account?

Local councils have their own criteria but usually, Savings/capial over £6000 (£10,000 if you're a pensioner) will affect how much HB you will get. Anything over £16,000 will stop it completely. So, unless you are close to the figures then it wouldn't make any difference.0 -
If it's taken into account i will be a few hundred off £6000 this is why i need to know coz if its taken into account i will ask for it back if not i will leave it in there incase i work overtime and my hb goes down then i still have a months rent in my rent account to cover it.0

i always have ab amount exceeding £300 in my rent account.

My HA has never said anything about having a months rent in the rent account. It was my LA benefits advisor who told me that i can ask for it back but she didn't say whether it will count as my capital and i didn't think to ask at the time. I'd rather it be in there just so i know that if there are any probs with my claim my rent is still paid. Anyone who works in housing benefit able to help please?0
