Up and coming Town/Cities in the UK??

Where in the UK are there towns and cities on the up? Not the big established ones, the more unknown gems?

Thanks

Towns near to Cambridge. The city itself is very expensive but there are attractive places with reasonable house prices a few miles away.

Nowhere near where I live, fortunately!

The economically successful parts of my county are rammed with traffic, especially in summer. They're becoming expensive to buy into, having 'come up' in the last decade or so, and they're still set on that trajectory with loads of new building.

One day, people in those areas will look around and realise they've created Guildford-on-sea, but that's fine. I'll be long gone by the time they find my bit and head here in droves to experience the 'authenticity.' :rotfl:

South midlands. Around Bedford. Knew people who bought houses round there when they were cheap as chips. Still bargains to be had I would imagine.

Very rural and also diverse and multicultural.

    Billingford New Town.

    Still on the drawing board.......
  • Admits to being rather surprised that anyone who knows an "unknown gem" would tell the world about it anyway - as who wants The World to descend and promptly wreck said "unknown gem"?

Bedford and surrounding villages have never been cheap! Nearest "cheap" place would be Rushden (in Northants), 15 miles away. Only "bargains" are in the less desirable areas of the town. Being at the end of the Thameslink electric line to St Pancras International, with trains every 15 mins or less, has kept house prices buoyant as it is a very popular commuter town.
If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales

Why? Are you looking to descend upon such an area to invest in buy-to-let?
