Jet2 CFU-MAN LS952 3rd Oct

My parents were booked on to the Jet2 flight from Corfu to Manchester on 3rd Oct. It was a one way flight as they had flown out with Ryanair.

The flight was delayed for 36hours as the incoming flight couldn't land due to flooding on the runway.
They were due to depart at 9pm Thurs night and were informed at 3am that they definitely wouldn't be leaving that night and would be staying overnight.

They were taken to their hotel at 5am, checked in at 6am and had to check out at 12 noon. Coach collected them at 6pm on Friday night and they eventually flew about 11pm.

Under EU regulations they've been advised by jet2 that they cannot claim as it was due to bad weather which is an.unforseen circumstance. They totally understand that and would rather have been safe than sorry but they were given no refreshments at the airport other than a bottle of water and only recieved breakfast at the hotel. Jet2 have said they won't cover additional costs. The whole service was pretty poor, but they actually fared ok as some others didn't even get a hotel room!

Is this correct though? Should they have covered some. Food/drink expenses within reason?

    Eu261 duty of care applies whether the delay is the airlines fault or not so they should either have received vouchers/ food at the airport or they can send in copies of their receipts for their purchases for reimbursement

    Thought as much, thanks for that. They have kept all receipts anyway so will be sending them on and will see what they say.
