Student laptop advice

    I'm currently writing my PhD thesis on a 5 year old laptop. Admittedly the battery is gone on it and it is a bit slow, but it does work. I think it was pretty decent at the time it was bought.



    One thing that makes a difference is that I run a fairly lightweight linux system on it. If she wants a techy type job learning linux early could be an advantage so might be worth investigating for her.
