Hi,
Just popping in with an update as I find they keep me on track.
This week has seen a bit of a turning point in our MF journey, we have looked for ways to increase our income to make a bigger overpayment this month.
So far we have;
1. Sold some of OH tax-free shares from work.
2. Requested a £160 rebate from gas and electric provider (meter readings were up to date).
3. OH applied for £100 payment from health insurer (part of his company benefits package) for new births. Claim accepted following a copy of DD2 birth certificate being provided as proof of birth.
Whilst we have taken these steps, it is likely that the money won't arrive in our accounts until around the end of the month :j:j:j
Continuing;
1. To follow meal plan.
2. Currently on third NSD of the week. Planned spends for tomorrow as weekly grocery shop needed.
3. Listed 2 items on ebay - 1 more is to be photographed and listed this afternoon.
DD1 did go to the school book fair and bought a book with her pocket money, so no changes to our bank accounts2022 Target - Reduce new mortgage balance after house move - Part 1 (Ported) Starting balance £39,982.12 currently £37,242.19 Part 2 Starting Balance £101,997.88 currently £96,197.38 (as at 19/04/2022)0 -
Great news on the £100 from the health insurance.
Don't worry about your overspends, these things happen (my weakness is my children) but it's so good that you have got yourself back on track so monumentally and so quickly!

:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
Confession time I came across decluttering after I fell into the time consuming world of YouTube - I stumbled across a channel called Sugar Mamma TV - the lady is an Australian Financial Planner who does these decluttering challenges. I found myself feeling overwhelmed (much the same as she had described feeling herself) and thought I would give it a whirl.
Check her out (but don't blame me if you find yourself binge watching youtube videos :rotfl:)2022 Target - Reduce new mortgage balance after house move - Part 1 (Ported) Starting balance £39,982.12 currently £37,242.19 Part 2 Starting Balance £101,997.88 currently £96,197.38 (as at 19/04/2022)0 -
Again, popping in with an update to keep me on the straight and narrow.
I did the meal plan and grocery shop yesterday - I done the meal plan all the way to payday (2 weeks). £25 spent at Butchers and £80 at supermarket. I have £25 left in grocery budget for top up shop and fathers day cards.
The planned NSD for today will end up being a Low Spend Day, as the bakery had run out of crusty loaves by the time I got there yesterday, so I will pop in today to see if they have any. Need this for this weeks lunches. Anticipate a spend of approx £1.50.
Bank accounts were balanced yesterday and I rounded down the grocery budget to cover top up shop and the remaining £11.33 has been sent to savings.2022 Target - Reduce new mortgage balance after house move - Part 1 (Ported) Starting balance £39,982.12 currently £37,242.19 Part 2 Starting Balance £101,997.88 currently £96,197.38 (as at 19/04/2022)0 -
Random money wins for the week;
1. Filled in a Pizza Express survey after we ate there on way to DSis wedding - received a voucher for free dough balls.
2. Claimed a £3 Amazon voucher from SB this morning.
3. Asda Price Guarantee check on online shop - £5.67 voucher to be added to the account.
4. Received an email from Holland and Barrett with a voucher for £2.49 off next purchase. It would appear that when I bought some essential oils, I agreed to join their loyalty scheme - not bad for a one off purchase.
5. Forgot about a refund that was due to go to CC - so we will be £24.50 in credit at some point next week.2022 Target - Reduce new mortgage balance after house move - Part 1 (Ported) Starting balance £39,982.12 currently £37,242.19 Part 2 Starting Balance £101,997.88 currently £96,197.38 (as at 19/04/2022)0 -
Good Morning.
I have been MIA for a couple of weeks, as we seem to have entered one of those phases in life when everything hits at once.
Payday is on Monday, so we need to plan for the month ahead and as we are half way through the year (almost :eek:), it is a good time to revisit the targets we set at the start of the year and make a plan to meet them before the year end.
The weather is glorious here, so lots of washing is flapping on the line and the meat for tonight's fajitas is thawing on the side :drool:
In other news, we have booked a week away to a caravan park in August which was £400 :j We have been there before and its a nice place that we can have some time out (and we were very pleased with the cost as some of the comparable places are charging in the region of £800-£1000!!! for 5 days :eek:).
Does anyone else find it hard balancing becoming mortgage free/financially independent and not feeling like a complete miser?2022 Target - Reduce new mortgage balance after house move - Part 1 (Ported) Starting balance £39,982.12 currently £37,242.19 Part 2 Starting Balance £101,997.88 currently £96,197.38 (as at 19/04/2022)0 -
Life is just flying by at the minute, OH has been picking up lots of overtime so home life has been pretty busy, this will continue into July, but it will give us more to send towards the mortgage come the end of July.
The payday money shuffles were done on time, but we waited to sit down and have a proper chat about what we wanted to do with the money from the sold shares.
The majority of the money has gone into the savings for us to hit the £10k target :j:j:j
The remainder will be sent over to the mortgage to keep us moving towards the £65k mark. We did discuss replacing the dining table etc, but we are clearly too addicted to mortgage OP's (and the table etc are wants, not needs ).
I will wait for the mortgage OP to hit the account before updating my sig.2022 Target - Reduce new mortgage balance after house move - Part 1 (Ported) Starting balance £39,982.12 currently £37,242.19 Part 2 Starting Balance £101,997.88 currently £96,197.38 (as at 19/04/2022)0 -

Congratulations on hitting that savings target! And I can understand that addiction to overpaying :rotfl: it will be worth it!Original mortgage: December 2017, £203,495
MFW start: April 2018, £201,800
Mortgage neutral: September 2022, mortgage redeemed: December 2022
New house, new mortgage: December 2022, £276,007
Current balance: £217,800 minus £8,300 overpayment savings pot0 -
Mortgage Update - with the regular payment, rest of share money and money from OH June wage, we are now at £64,305.25!!
We will revise our target to get the mortgage down to £55k by 31/12/18 - now we have met our savings goal, we can send more money towards the mortgage from our usual incomes.
Goals still outstanding for 2018;
- Re-decorate hall, stairs and landing by 30/09/18 (need to get a shift on with this).
- Buy new dining table and blinds for kitchen.
- Have a mortgage down to £55k by 31/12/18.
I'm feeling very excited about our progress and our future2022 Target - Reduce new mortgage balance after house move - Part 1 (Ported) Starting balance £39,982.12 currently £37,242.19 Part 2 Starting Balance £101,997.88 currently £96,197.38 (as at 19/04/2022)0
