Unless they fall into an exempt category they will not be able claim tax credits as all areas of UK are now Universal Credit Live as such the calculations are totally different.0 -
You need to prove that you are self-employed by supplying the benefits people with things like your business bank account details, invoices issued, supplier invoices, receipts etc. And, if you are self employed you should be registered with HMRC and have a UTR which you can also supply to them.0

Your question needs more context. Are you asking what benefits somebody can claim or you saying that said person has claimed a benefit but is having difficulty with the DWP progressing the claim. A little more detail would help us provide a relevant response.Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.0 -
This page has advice on what you can show to the DWP to prove you are gainfully self-employed:

While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.0 -
What do you mean they don't believe you? Don't believe you are working? Don't believe you are self employed? Don't believe you have a low income?0

The MIF doesn’t apply for the first 12 months but as OP has not returned to clarify their query it’s hard to know what the issue is.Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.0
