Can you check if your Avira Antivirus is still working correctly?

Options
I updated Avira Antivirus today as usual and I have noticed a problem with it. When I right click on a file that I want to scan and select "Scan selected files with Avira", the file scanner appears for a split second and then disappears. This happens even if you select a folder with many files in it. I do not believe any file scanning is occuring.

Also, if I go into the antivirus program and click the gear icon in the lower left hand corner, a message appears saying "Avira Antivirus error Error : 500 Could not open configuration".

I thought this might have just been a corrupted file on my computer but when I checked Avira on another computer we have, it has the same problem. I am wondering if there was a problem with the most recent released update for the program?

If you have Avira installed, can you check to see if you have got the same problem? I can find no real information about this error on the Internet and I am hoping that Avira is still protecting me correctly.

Both machines are running Windows 7. I have also just updated Avira on a Windows 8 tablet and there is no problem with it so maybe this is a Windows 7 problem?

"The European Institute for Computer Antivirus Research (EICAR) has developed a test "virus" " https://docs.trendmicro.com/all/ent/iwsva/v5.5/en-us/iwsva_5.5_olh/test_virus.htm it is harmless, but test many a/v packages

I fixed it by uninstalling and then reinstalling Avira, thanks anyway.

A reboot of the machine and a manual update of avira did mine....

    A bit harsh :)

Avira is still a very good, capable and safe a/v, and it's not like every other a/v hasn't had the odd issue here'n'there, hence why I tend to swap over on a semi-regular basis ;)
