Burglary - Claim or not?

Options
Anyone here employed in the home insurance industry or with a deep understanding?

Unfortunately I have recently been burgled.

The loss amounts to about £3,500 but I am concerned about claiming.

1. Are my future premiums going going to gobble this up in 3-4 years (currently pay £300pa)?
2. We spend 5 months a year in our appt in Tenerife, will we become uninsurable

I was leaning towards not claiming but I have a feeling that on any future proposal the question could be 'have I suffered any loss?' and not just have I made any claim. If the end result is the same I may just as well go ahead and make a claim but I'm really anxious. Specifically not being able to insure our home when away, or a prohibitive cost would be much more of a disaster than the burglary

Generally insurers ask about any "insurable losses" in last x years (as well as actual claims)

So in theory you will have to declare it anyway which means a hike in premiums regardless. I would claim as it's likely the difference in premium between simply declaring the loss and actually claiming for it over x years will probably be far less than £3500.

I think that's where I'm leaning. Damned if you do, damned if you don't. Worried what will happen in regards to insistence on additional security measures too

Is your house vacant for more than 30 days at a time? And if so are your insurers aware as all household insurance I've held always ask this at renewal.
Obviously you're OK if you have declared this.

Yes they are aware. As my wife said the fact that we are away for over 30 days means we take all laptops, tablets, phones and most of her jewellery and therefore limits loss vs a weekend/night away. Worried about not getting insured again if make this claim but as previous poster said fact I had a loss is enough anyway
