Credit card payment not taken, But Haven adament I have paid!

Options
Hi all - i seem to find myself in a bit of a strange situation, looking for advice as what to do.

Paid off my Haven holiday (£950) back on the 11 May 2018 using my Halifax Credit Card, Haven have issued a receipt and booking confirmation to state i have paid in full. Checked my Halifax online banking after paying and the payment showed as "pending" - then went to pay off the amount on the 18/05 - however no trace of the payment is now showing on my credit card.
So firstly i called Halifax to ask why - they confirmed the payment was pending but was never "collected" by Haven, therefore it was never debited and funds were not released by Halifax.
So - Next stop was Haven to attempt to repay, however - I have now spoken with various Haven staff, including "head office," they state according to their system i have paid in full and i must be mistaken! Haven and Halifax have been really helpful and they have have jokingly suggested "you have a free holiday" - however i want to pay and to be honest Im more worried about turning up for the long awaited holiday to be turned around as i really haven't paid!

Ive kept records of conversations and who i have spoken to etc ......just wondering if i have any rights or if anyone can suggest a way forward..

Oh yeah - the £950 is safely tucked away for when Haven realize there mistake which i cant believe they Wont!

You don't have any rights to force them to take your money. If you mean rights not to pay then you don't have those either.

Just this. The sensible and obvious thing to do, but you'd be amazed how many people don't do it!

Probably in a few days when they realise the pending payment hasn't hit the account, they will come back to you.

I had the same thing happen with a company who did a survey on the roof of a house I was trying to buy (but didn't), 3 years later they still haven't taken the money. I rang them up once to remind them after a few weeks but after that it's up to them - if their credit control is so poor that they don't know who has and hasn't paid that's their problem, not mine.

Fair play for trying so hard. I'd say the one thing to worry over is that I believe they will have up to 6 years to collect the debt from you, which could mean you end up having to keep that money safe for that time, which would be a right pain.

also had a similar thing happen with a holiday a couple of years ago.
We had gone on a Caribbean cruise with NCL for my wife's 50th and when in the casino on-board we had been getting chips and slot credits charged to our room account.
We knew we owed them about 3 thousand but they were adamant that our bill was zero.
We ended up after a few phone calls to them sending proof no money had left my account and they finally agreed we still owed them money.
It took about 3 months for this to happen but i was happy it would not come back to bite me in the future.

I paid a restaurant bill in Switzerland using my credit card and it took 5 months before the payment was finally taken.
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

You have tried your hardest so just keep the money in case they ask for it in the future. Yes they have 6 years but it's extremely unlikely that they will notice after a year.
