I have some conifers that need pruning and some trees that need shaving. Is Dec a good time to do it or should I wait?

Deciduous trees are best pruned when dormant so potentially now to Feb/March - best time is closer to spring but before the buds start growing as wounds will heal quicker.

Conifers - being careful not to cut too far back into old wood as they wont readily regrow - can be pruned Spring to late Summer.

So definitley not now for conifers but you could prune anything deciduous if you can't wait till late winter
