Home insurance renewal

Options
Hi all,

My renewal is through at £230, yet when I check moneysupermaket I can get cover for £130 with the same provider!!
Can I cancel the renewal and take out a policy with them via moneysupermarket to start the same day?

Yes - presumably you don't have auto renewal?? (If so notify them now you don't want it!)

Mum had exactly the same issue with her home insurance.

Phoned the company who brought her renewal quote down by £70 but was still £30 more than the new policy quote. They wouldn't budge so I told them not to renew and we'd take out a new policy.

    Absolute madness

I actually played this out with Tesco last night.
He was able to reduce the renewal to only £4 above Tesco's direct "new customer" price.
For me this was good enough to renew.
    2 points to note
    1. the advisor was absolutely happy to tell me to cancel and renew as a new tesco customer
    2. the existing policy renewal is actually for an "obsolete" product. The current offering is slightly "better", but the "better" points would never impact me. Ie Buildings cover was £1million now unlimited.

I would also advise being extremely cautious if renewing/starting afresh using the "comparison sites"
In this particular case the comparison sites have so many more questions than Tesco itself.
It brought the price down even "lower" using them.
As an example on Tesco the question around door and window locks is singular.
Therefore although I have 5 Lever Mortice on doors but a few windows have no locks the answer is NO.
The comparison site pulled through my 5 Lever Mortice on doors YES and Locks on windows NO as YES on the Tesco quote.
Poor IT in my opinion and clearly dangerous for the lazy amongst us.

You could have got cashback if you went for the brand new policy.(eg. £40 @ Quidco)

Is it too late to cancel and start again?
