Here's a left-field suggestion: buy up as many of this years commemorative 50p and £2 coins as you can get your hands on and keep them in near-uncirculated condition. If it turns out either was a low mintage their value will spike around the same time circulation figures are announced. For reference, 2015 and 2016 WW1 commemorative £2 coins are changing hands for sometimes in excess of £5 a piece on eBay. Even after fees you're looking at a reasonable chance of doubling your money.

How about a car? Buy it for £100, strip it and sell parts and you'll make a lot more than £100.Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.0 -
