Custom / Specific Landline Number??

Hello there, hope you all are having a wonderful Friday in this festive month of Christmas.
I was wondering if I could perhaps, choose a custom landline number of my choice? I want to specifically get in contact with someone who has access to the Openreach network, so they can allocate me the number and sign me up to their service. BT aren't helpful, as they are saying "it's not guaranteed that you will receive the number" but my address and the desired number are listed on the same BT Exchange AND it's available (the number).
If someone here can shed some light on my situation, please do. Also, I am very hesitant to sign up with BT as some of my friends and family have had terrible experiences with them. I don't want a physical landline installation here.. Like I said, if you know of someone who can assist me, please let me know. This number that I want is very precious to me, haha.

I think you will need to sign up with whichever operator currently holds the number.
As a consumer you can't deal direct with Openreach or BT Wholesale.
You can then port the number out to another provider including Voice over IP.
There are specialist dealers in "gold" numbers who may be able to port in any current unused BT number, but this can be expensive.
If the number has been used for another business in the last two years you won't be able to have it, regardless of holding operator, as it will be quarantined for that period.A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0 -

Hey, thank you for the response. Thankfully, this number I want, is linked with nobody. I've Googled it and it brings no results to who the owner is. The owner was probably an early 1900s person and died without any offspring. That's my guess. But yeah, I believe the number range holder is BT but I want a guaranteed response that I will own it, I don't want BT doing me over..0 -
There is no guarantee, and you won't own the number at any time. You will only rent it, and telecom providers always have the right to change your number, either individually or as part of a renumbering scheme.A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0

OK, I’ll take the bait, say the number that is important to you is 01666 ***666 ( the number of the beast ?) but presumably not a number you have ever been associated with, given that you assume the number was once allocated to someone born in the early 1900’s and died without children, so obviously you have no knowledge of the number as such.
To get the number you would have to order a line from the number range holder that the number is part of, the number would have to be a valid number in one of the 8 exchanges in the Malmesbury area, you would have to reside in a property within that specific exchange area and the number would have to be valid and currently unallocated.
I have used an 01666 number just as an example, you give such little detail it’s unclear if the number you want is even in a format compatible with the UK number scheme, if this isn’t some sort of wind up, you will have to be a little more specific.0 -
