What's the best gaming laptop for £2k+ budget ?

Options
Hi ya
Thank you in advance :)
I'm looking for a new gaming laptop for my daughter for Xmas and I'd like to get quite a good spec one.

I'm allowing a budget of between £2000-£3000

I dont personally know too much about them but that's what I get for being a PlayStation fan. I've looked at a few at find it all so confusing, so here's a few bits that are a must for the new laptop.

17in screen 4K
NVIDIA RTX 2080 Max-Q 8GB Graphics
Intel Core i7 (best one possible as i9 takes total to over £3k)
16GB RAM minimum
512GB-1TB SSD

I was looking at the ASUS ROG GX701 but there are so many I find myself scratching my head. I just want the latest model that will run trouble free for at least a few years.

Many thanks for your time and advice
Peter

That is a powerful laptop. What type of gaming will your daughter be doing on it?

I'd always just recommend ditching a laptop and getting a desktop (cheaper, easier to upgrade in the future, not as noisy). so is a laptop definitely needed?

    Thanks for your reply dan958

She has a gaming PC already which is a few years old now and would like a laptop, dont get me wrong we dont have money to burn but our daughter has medical conditions that make her suffer with pain and discomfort so to me a few £k is money well spent.

The game she wants to play on it is CyberPunk 2077

Here are the Cyberpunk 2077 System Requirements (Minimum)
    CPU: Intel i7-8700K @ 3.70 GHz.
    CPU SPEED: Info.
    RAM: 16 GB.
    OS: Windows 10 64-bit.
VIDEO CARD: GeForce GTX 1080 Ti.
    PIXEL SHADER: 5.1.
    VERTEX SHADER: 5.1.
    DEDICATED VIDEO RAM: 4 GB.

    Many thxs Peter

The difficulty is, the requirements for CyberPunk 2077 have not yet been released. Not sure where you got those from in your post, but they will be an estimate, and I doubt the minimum requirements will be a 1080ti.

That laptop will play anything you throw at it for a while. Just look into battery life, as if you plan on running from the battery often, I doubt it (or any gaming laptops) will last very long.

Yes dan958 I believe that games not out till April but I found this that might be a bit future proof as they say, The 3XS Carbon Extreme Gaming Laptop from Scan.co.uk at £2,700

    17.3in, 8GB RTX 2080, 4K/UHD screen, Intel Core i7 9700F, 32GB DDR4, 500GB M.2 SSD, 2TB, Win10

I've been happy with my Gigabyte Aero laptop bought in March this year. Lower spec than what you propose but obviously technology marches on. Full price at the time was at the bottom end of your scale but I bought from the Amazon warehouse deals as new and unboxed which saved a significant amount.

IMO I don't buy gaming laptops due to their lower specs and high premium price. They have a tendancy to overheat and if one component fails you have to get a new laptop

Whereas a PC, you can ugrade and it is modular so you can easily replace parts.

For 2-3k I could build a top of the range PC and still have change. I probably only need less than 2k

That seems one hell of a spec, even for a recent top end title. Are you sure this is not the minimum requirement for 4K gaming?

To put it into perspective, this would equate to a £1500-£2000 desktop PC which would have had to have been bought no more than 2 years ago. The graphics card alone was £700-800 at launch and is still around £400-500.

If this was indeed the minimum at "any" resolution they would stand to lose millions in players (and potentially hundreds of millions in revenue) as 95% of the potential customers would not have a machine that could play it!

The specs are also slightly confusing as they mandate a 1080TI as a minimum, which has 12GB of video memory, but specify just 4GB of video memory in the minimum requirements?

pc specialist have good stuff, some off shelf and a lot you can spec yourself.

last two PC's been off them.

i would go DESKTOP for ease of any upgrades - laptops as convienet as they are, are not for serious gaming, they have limits. parts are more expensive etc. eg if you desktop monitor breaks, you replace THAT item. laptop screen well you can be looking at the whole thing being replaced.
