Smodlet - please rant away! I love a good rant. Glad it made you feel better.

I have resisted posting a SOA for the very reason you mention - the folk that are really struggling sometimes through no fault of their own to keep a house over their head and feed themselves/children. I've had this debt since I was 18. It's been getting me down recently but I needed a 'boot up the !!!!' for my LBM which - as you may know - was my food bill for the month.

I am very fortunate that I have no commitments, a stable well-paying job and rent a room off a friend. I did not make this diary to make others feel bad or to boast about what I'm up to or how much cash I could be putting towards debt but don't. Everyone has a different story. A different manner of how they accumulated debt but one thing is the same - on these boards at least - is that we all want rid of this debt. How/why we do this is up to us and hope we can support each other in that endeavour.

P.S. It takes a lot more than that to offend me!

I don't use my internet banking too much at the moment for this reason. Sounds like its going well? Lots of good decisions and monitoring.

Aye absolutely. I feel the same way as you with regards to the Internet banking. I have avoided looking at this except for one day this week to ensure that there are no unexpected payments coming out. Is going swimmingly and is not too much of a hardship at the minute however I appreciate that I am still in the honeymoon period. I keep reading that this is a marathon not a sprint!

    Hi Cailbhinn, all,

I was actually more concerned about offending P_S_l

Unless you were to win the lottery, you are absolutely right, Cailbhinn, and you are headed in the right direction without, from what you say, the usual impetus. It is refreshing to find someone whose LBM has not been prompted by a long look into the abyss (the possibility of bailiffs knocking on the door)

An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

I don't know how you do it, Cailbhinn, but you seem to me to be the epitome of cool... gosh darn it, where have the emojicons gone, I wanted the blue one with the sunglasses.

I am so glad I have met you, dude, I think I can learn from you... ain't that what it's all about?

I'm renowned for my calmness and unflappable nature. Some say I am too laid back but...

Another NSD for me so that's 4 so far since Saturday. :D Might break through my target of 8 this month. Good seeing Dad and giving him his present. He is so un-materialistic as is mum so I don't know where I got it from although that was my younger days! It's weird how your outlook and priorities change when you get older even without kids or other commitments.

I have around £80 in the grocery budget left and doubt I will even get to half that so that's £40 to the debt this month. i had to re-hash my figures as I forgot to add the interest this month - only a few quid but even more determined to firstly overpay for the first time in an absolute age and to get rid of the fukker altogether!

I hadn't realised my post about not looking at internet banking was so controversial. Im sorry it made you so angry. It was just literally me saying that most people find internet banking helpful, whereas me and op don't. That's all. I hope your post helped you and you feel better, although for me it bordered on judgement which isn't what this forum is about. I wish you well.

Obviously close to smodlet's heart and if it wasn't emotive then we wouldn't all be here looking for help. Hope you continue reading my inane ramblings PSL.

On lunch myself (Fridays are quieter) and thinking about stuff. Most of it not related to debt. Having a positive outlook on my debt is increasing my positivity in other parts of my life so all good. Will likely treat myself to a Chinese tonight - don't worry it's budgeted! Apparently October is on course to be one of the driest for a while. Indeed the weekend has to be dry so can get my sponge and bucket out to clean the car. No more £6 p/w washes! Might have a clear out too as when I get the cleaning bug I can't stop. The grass could also do with a last cut before the winter. Hopefully a NSD each day though.

Decided to get a fakeaway from Te$co. About a third of the price and quite tasty! Not a NSD today but less than i would have had I got a Chinese. Heating is on and catching up on some telly. Bliss.

Doing really well Calibhinn, I'm pleased you enjoyed your fakeaway. Sometimes they are fine, other they are just disappointing l think it depends what you choose from the selection on offer.

Wishing you a pleasant and thrifty weekend

Wowsers. This debt free journey has really opened my eyes. Usual junk mail this morning offering me a guaranteed pre-approved loan. The not-so-small print showing the APR above. It's no wonder folk get themselves into a spiralling circuit of debt with an APR like that! And this isn't a payday loan company!

You too. I've been up since 6.30am - my clock never seems to reset itself after getting up for work all week. Although I've done the dishes and cleaned the kitchen. Done two washings. Just ready to go into the bath for a soak and catch up on the telly I've missed. Bit grey and ominous looking so will leave the car 'til tomorrow as the weather looks to be dry. Barring any unforeseen issues, today will be a NSD.
