Claiming on house insurance

Options
if you have house insurance with someone like halifax and you are renting out to tenants and the tenants have a problem that they need to claim on my insurance policy how does this affect my household insurance policy.

can i protect my bonus as with cars? or should I go for a specialist house insurance for tenants?
thanks in advance

Are you saying that you have not told Halifax that you have tenants?

If this is the case then you might be in trouble because you have not told the truth to your insurer about the risks.

Assuming you have told them about the tenants then the cover will be for buildings only. Tenants arrange their own contents insurance.

The tenant has no financial arrangement with your insurance company - it is up to you to make the claim and deal with the loss adjusters etc.

Household insurance NCD is a bit of a rarity and to the best of my knowledge you cannot protect it. From memory the discounts only go something like 5% - 10% - 20%. Assuming a base premium for buildings of say £200, the max NCD is only £40.

On cars, the NCD can go to 70% and the base premium can be £2k so when you are talking £1400 - there is more incentive to protect it.

Halifax do know but as tenants had a problem once i wonder if this affects insurance and that i could end up paying more on renewal.
    thanks!

what do you ( you say they) need to claim for?

accidental damage is not covered with tenants

it is you that will need to claim
