DRO, do rent contributions count towards expenditure?

Options
Hi All,

My brother has got into a right mess with his finances, I've used the calculator and he does indeed fit the criteria for a DRO.

My only question is over his rent payment, he lives with my mother and pays her £150 for rent - but he's not on the tenancy agreement or anything this is just his contribution towards it.

Does this effect things?

that will have to be discussed with your advisor I should imagine. but my initial thought is if nothing is official then it does not exist.

Yes monthly rent is a legitimate expense.

Your budget is not subject to scrutiny, what you pay out you pay out, and counts towards your monthly expenses.

Yes, but it would have to be reasonable.

You don't say whether it is £150 per month or per week.

The former may be appropriate e.g. if someone is on JSA.

The latter may be appropriate if earning

He's mainly housebound with DLA & ESA, he pays £150 for the month which we felt was reasonable.

    That sounds fine then.

You realise that DLA doesn't count as income?

It just gets entered as an 'in' and an 'out'

    Hi kashinoda

I'd agree with fatbelly that the rent figure quoted sounds unlikely to cause any issues - it's considerably lower than what one would expect to pay if renting a room privately pretty much anywhere in the country.

Does that mean we're not to include medical/special expenses related to the DLA? I believe the fundamental result is the same anyway in terms of deficit.

Just put dla as 'in' and adult care costs as 'out'
