Random Characters on Barclays Cheques.

My wife recently received a new chequebook from Barclays Bank. In addition to the usual cheque number, account number, and sort code, there is a string of apparently random characters at the bottom of each cheque. For example:
6A&VBGDYJJK?
R!CHJUGH=8K
>MUIKJL$KLM
I have searched online and found next to nothing. Does anyone know the purpose of these characters? Thanks.

They will help with the introduction of paying in cheques via taking a photo on your banking app.
Don't know what they mean - sorry.
It is not just Barclays all cheque books issued by UK banks have had them for some time.0 -
It's a security feature I think.: )0
