Hope this isn't needed again but are you aware of the drying out trick of putting them in a air tight plastic box with rice. Rice absorbs the moisture very well. I've heard of people who have done this with mobile phone when dropped in water.

Oh yes, I've done it myself with a mobile phone ... and I've given him strict instructions not to switch them on again straight away to see if they're working after their unexpected shower, because that's what fries them!

I've got a FitBit which works for me! My audiologist at Bedford Hearing Healthcare highly recommended it as an option. They're a little pricey, but they have lots of other cools features and most of the models allow you to set up your alarm on your phone and then it vibrates on your wrist when it's due. Hope that helps!

Getting on quite well with my new Teneo hearing aid .Pleased. Can now hear the birds whistling (and all the creaking and clanking from the town bus) lol.
And would you believe it, have been told by Specsavers they can do something with the left ear which I thought had been dead for 50 years.
Due for a masking? test next week. Early days but hopeful.

My aunt wears hearing aids she said that in the evenings she cannot hear as well as during the day. I have invited her to stay for a few days, she has declined she said that because she has the volume on her tv turned up as high as it will go and even when when is sitting close she still cannot hear; she does not want to inconvenience us with the loud volume. My aunt does not have much diposable income but we thought that we could make a gift to her of a TV listening device she also has difficulty hearing on the phone. Any recommendations please of an inexpensive device up to £100 approx

Not sure how impartial these people are but very informative. I have heavy earphones with a long lead, but not very comfortable. Might enquire about the WiFi thin type. Prices seem to be £60 to £160.

Hi hoping someone can help me out .
I am profoundly deaf and knew my hearing was worse so got an audology app a month ago i only heard 2 sounds in right ear which i knew straightaway was worse left ear the same with 25% hearing .i got 2 new stronger hearing aids which are helping me which am happy about just before end of app i told the audiologist "caroline" that i worry because i havent been able to hear on mobile or landline phone and because i dont keep well i have some health issues along with my hearing and worry in case i need a doctor or need to contact someone in an emergency.caroline told me she had a rep in a couple of weeks earlier with a gadget for using mobile phone she said i was her last patient of the day so if i had time we could give it a try as she had not had anyone to try it out on .
So i stayed and caroline paired my mobile up with phone gadget.she told me when my mobile rang i was not to answer my mobile but to press the button on the gadget.
Caroline went next door and phoned my mobile and i pressed the button which in turn put my hearing aids onto phone mode automatically and then i said hello
I was amazed it was like caroline was standing right beside me i could hear her no problem it was brillant
When she came back in i told her it was brillant and would love to get one and asked how much it was she went and got the book and looked it up it was £360 i nearly cried i dont have that kind of money.i dont work for health reasons.i have no way of saving up that kind of money i have a few debts that come off my esa and yes i get dla but by time i pay everything and buy some food i have nothing left.
Does anyone know if there are any grants i could apply to and see if i would be able to get the phone gadget??
I know the debts are my problem but i am dealing with them but as i said i scrape the barrow before the 2 weeks are up.
Any constructive help would be welcome and thank you for taking the time to read this xx

It appears that your audiologist demonstrated a device called a Streamer, which was likely to be a device that allows you to connect your hearing aids with various bluetooth devices, such as mobile phones. You have to have bluetooth-enabled hearing aids for the Streamer to work, which you obviously do, given the fact that your audiologist was able to make it all work so well for you. The device would also enable you to stream music/audio and even TV - so the hearing aids then act like a pair of high-quality headphones.

There are no general grants for this type of hearing aid accessory that are available to all and sundry, but people can qualify for grants if they fulfil certain criteria. Examples might include:-
- Access to Work: if you need this device in order to perform a particular job
- Royal British Legion: they have a welfare fund for members and ex-Services people
- Social groups: even a local group to you may have a welfare fund of some sort, to support past and present members in need.

The other option would be to look on somewhere like eBay, just ensuring that you know exactly the name and the specific model of the product you need. Your audiologist will be able to give you this specific information if you don't have it already. Even fairly new and hardly-used Streamers can appear from time to time, usually at bargain prices due Streamers being such a specialised product.

I contacted my local hospital as I feel my hearing has deteriorated this summer as even with hearing aids I am turning up the volume on the TV more and more. I asked if I could be retested and did I need a referral from my GP whom I had seen recently due to balance problems.

I was told that as my last test was in 2015 I can't have another one till 2020 as they have a policy of only testing every 5 years but I can have an appointment so they can tweak the hearing aids. How can they make changes if they don't do a test as they won't know which frequencies are a problem.

Is this a new NHS policy or has it always been so and I have never had a problem in under 5 years so wasn't aware of it.
