Travel insurance for working in Canada

Help !!

My son is off to Canada to do a 7 week ski instructor course and then hopefully work there for the season. He has his work permit and visa ( valid for 2 years)

He is struggling to find insurance to cover him for 5 months.
The policy must have:
Snow sports cover
Valid for studying and working in Canada
Ability to extend the insurance over there if he decides to stay on longer
Cover for the cost of the course if he should unfortunately have an accident before he completes the course
But the main issue is he has existing medical conditions - Epilepsy, cortisol deficiency and a previous subdural haematoma.

Can anyone advise of insurance companies that we can try? The only quotes we have found are around £2,000.

Thanks for any assistance
Sue

Your son is going to be taking part in comparatively high risk activities for 5 months in a country with limited free healthcare. Insurance costs are going to be high. You really need to contact a specialist insurer for that and for his medical cover.

£2000 doesn't sound too bad to me, have you tried a broker?

    Hi,

I currently use Alpha travel insurance for my 2 year ATW and work in Canada, however it has recently been pointed out that this may not have been the best choice considering their underwritters.

Depending which province he will be working will depend on the local health care I live in BC and have to prove that I am going to be in the province for 6 months to claim MSP and there is a 3 month wait before I can make a claim.

Does his employer give any benefits including healthcare? normally these are active after 3 months of employment.

Have a look at World nomads insurance they are very good at covering WH visas
Thanks to money saving tips and debt repayments/becoming debt free I have been able to work and travel for the last 4 years visiting 12 countries and working within 3 of them. Currently living and working in Canada

I'm just going to add he may want to check his visa, has he gone though something like BUNAC for the WH (well International experience Canada visa) which offers the course and visa together? as my IEC work permits states as one of the conditions on my work permit that I am NOT allowed to study on any course you have to get approval by CBA (canada boarder agency)
