Reputation of Southall Travel Company

Dear Community
As anyone had any experience of using Southall Travel.co.uk We have just booked a 3 week holiday package to the Maldives with them in January 2019, which includes flights with BA and seaplane transfer. We have paid a deposit. We are just a bit concerned about it, after reading a few accounts that people have had problems with flights to India? Any feedback would be great. Thank you in advance?

Southall Travel very efficiently provided me with return flights from London to Kabul via Dubai about six years ago. I walked in, booked and paid cash, all done in minutes and featuring a handwritten ticket on Ariana Afghan Airlines stock the like of which is very unusual nowadays. However it was not part of any holiday package. There were some Uzbek tribesmen buying similar tickets from one of the other agents, all apparently Afghan, they seemed to specialise in South Asian routes.

Re "travel to india," always difficult as so many people go and certain carriers have regualr problems re overbooking, nothing new.

Check the atbta/etc and you should be ok imo.

They've been around for 'donkey's years'. They trade online as Travel Trolley.
Many people swear by them and have used them without issue.
The thing you need to keep in mind when buying via a travel agent is the fare conditions of the ticket.
Buying online direct from an airline, it's easy to see the fare conditions beforehand. With a travel agent you often have to ask.
So determine as to whether you ticket is refundable and/or changeable and at what cost.
Most people only find this out when they need to cancel or to change a date. Then they blame the travel agent when they cannot.

Avoid all all costs. Rip off merchants. Spoke to Ralph on the phone who refused to confirm whether he owned the company and wouldn!!!8217;t alter a flight booked 9 hours earlier. He stated that to change 4 tickets to Sudan would cost an additional £1200 (after paying £2000 to start with). He offered a refund which totalled £900. Again I must repeat 9 hours after booking ticket for these additional costs...Shoddy company and better steering clear of....,,

And also said that if booked at 23.59 you have only 1 minute to make amendments as when it!!!8217;s a new day it becomes chargeable. Again avoid at all costs...

I'm not sure why you would ask someone if they owned the company.
If I phoned up to book flights, it wouldn't occur to me to ask that question.

Were the flights you booked non-refundable?
    Some are.
I've booked (direct with the airline) non-refundable tickets to Bali.
I knew exactly what I was doing.
I knew that if we had reason to change the flights or needed to cancel, it would be because of a much bigger problem in our lives than worrying about going on a holiday.
Why didn't you book direct with the airline?

Why did you want to amend your flights just 9 hours after booking them?

I'm a Destination Expert on the Trip Advisor Maldives Forum. There have been lots of threads about Southall Travel so I'd suggest popping across to have a read through them. Here's a link; hope this is a help:

    https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/SearchForums?ff=7445&geo=293953&scope=2&q=Southall&pid=34633&s=D

If you are nervous about your booking there are a number of Maldives Specialist agents who are UK based and are frequently used and highly recommended by forum members. We've used Purely Maldives three times and they're fabulous, but others include Magic of Maldives and Simply Maldives.
