Can I claim anything?

Options
Hi. I’m currently off sick. I have breast cancer, waiting to start radiotherapy.
I’ve been off 5 weeks so far. But the company I work for stopped their sick pay a year ago. So I now have to rely on statutory sick pay which is about £90 a week. So we will never manage all our bills etc.
My husband works full time, but only on minimum wage.
I’ve appiled for PIP, as I also have rheumatoid arthritis. But I doubt very much I will be awarded that.
Is there anything else I could claim to help us out. I’ve never claimed anything before in my life, so I don’t know much about it all.
I have a 15 year old son at home and an unemployed 24 year son at home too.
It’s bad enough the stress of having cancer without feeling bad about putting my family through this financial situation 😢

    Patience is a virtue.

You can claim New Style ESA if you have paid NI contributions.

No reasons why you shouldn't get PIP. Did you inform them you have cancer?

    Do you rent?

I'd strongly suggest getting in touch with MacMillan

    https://finance.macmillan.org.uk/benefits/benefits-online

They may have a benefits adviser in your area. We have one and he is excellent and offers ongoing support and will help with the PIP form completion.

Sorry my patience is thin on the ground right now my anxiety is through the roof. I put cancer and the arthritis and anxiety and depression on my application. I have paid some NI, the amount fluctuates with my earnings

This isn't possible at the same time as claiming SSP and the OP is claiming this at the moment.

The correct people to ask are MacMillan, they may be able to access you grants that no one else will know anything about.

It's not your responsibility to fund your unemployed son, he should be contributing some of his unemployment benefit (either universal credit or Jobseeker's Allowance) to the running of the family home.

1 month ago I tried to claim esa to be told my area was UC.

I knew with ESA i could claim cont based (i have no SSP left)

But was told I had to go on UC and claim with husband. Last Wednesday was pay day on UC i got £0

So i'd be interested to know about this new ESA

Edit... well i am fuming, I was told when i rang ESA when i tried to sign up with them that it was now UC, I was never given the option. Will be ringing in the morning.

Life is about give and take, if you can't give why should you take?

We've had this too - if you were told by DWP staff that you have to claim UC without mentioning new style ESA. Unfortunately, some of the training has been too quick and inadequate.
