    I’m 51, the tooth fairy was visiting me 45 years ago & leaving 50p then.
    Surely it’s gone up with inflation.

    So if today’s children are to be believed at receiving £5 per tooth from the Tooth Fairy what will the Tooth Fairy bring me when I lose my final 2 baby teeth I wonder?

    The last baby tooth I lost was awarded 20p roughly 30 years ago!

    20 years (at least) ago my girls got 50p or £1 for more unusual tooth loss but even then one of their friends got £5. I just said it that sometimes the tooth fairy gave different amounts. Didn’t make a “thing” of it. They both just accepted it like the accepted Santa didn’t give everyone the same.
    60 years ago I got and old sixpence. But when I had 8 teeth out at once (healthy ones - to make room in an overcrowded mouth) I got £1. Couldn’t believe it!

    I suspect that this young girl is saying that her friends extort £5 per tooth from the "Tooth Fairy" because she doesn't know of the existence of £50 notes... ;)

    I'm 56 and got sixpence (old money) per tooth my children in the 80s got 20 - 50p per tooth depending what change I had in my purse, they never questioned the amount they were just grateful that they had something but lots of small coins were the best received as they just thought they had more money ...

    £1/tooth is what my tooth fairy would pay if I were doing it.

    There are a LOT of teeth in a mouth. Don't get sucked into what you're told others get, or what others get.

    Your money, your choice. If you bend over every time somebody buys something, or spends more, or more often, you'll be bankrupt with kids who hate you before too long as there comes a point where you can't sustain it.

    I'd consider giving one of the unusual 50 pence pieces & encouraging child to stash them. (Or recycling the same coin until they can count effectively.)

    When a son lost the tooth between oops! & bedtime, he drew a picture of it. The tooth fairy accepted it but I should have left a picture of a 50 pence piece...

    When my husband had a tooth removed (having been a massive grouch for 72 hours) the tooth fairy left a new toothbrush & painkillers for him...

    Do not let inflation or peer pressure dictate a family ritual.
