O/S Daily Saturday 9 September 2017

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning everyone

Hugs to those that want/need one x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Light cloud and now dry underfoot - yesterday we had several short heavy downpours which left loads of laying water in places, then short bursts of sunshine, it was quite windy too, but now very calm and forecast isn't too bad for today. Obviously we have nothing to complain about compared to the residents affected by hurricane Irma.

We're up and enjoying peaceful cuppas, I'm working so I'm showered, dressed and now having coffee and eating brekkie whilst on here.

Dinner last night was chicken and bacon kievs, chips/jacket potato, beans/veg for the menfolk, I had mushroom omelette and salad. Tonight it's going to be duck in hoisin sauce, rice and ribs, and some stir fried veg.

Yesterday I was more productive, I did the food shopping, then got straight on with the ironing and changing our bed, DS1 also changed his bed, so dirty wash basket is full, but will work my way through that. 1 load is in now, not sure how much will get line dried though as after today the forecast isn't great for most of next week.

Keep safe and well x

Gers how scary for you and your mum, I hope she starts to improve now she is in hospital and getting some help, bless her xx

We had torrential rain here last night all night ! and were sitting here cold, so we lit the log burner we were soon cosy and warm, Evie loves laying in front of t !

Off to work for me today which I think will be quiet as there is a massive local event this weekend which normally attracts crowds of people, we will get lots of cleaning done if nothing else.

Not sure about dinner tonight OH in charge of domestics there is some fresh pasta in the fridge and some garlic bread the freezer has bits and bobs in too.

Right I had better get on have good days all xx

    Morning everyone,

Thanks for starting us off nmlc

Csarina I hope that you are soon feeling better. You’ve had a rotten time of it with UTIs recently, they can be really horrible.

Gers I've only just read your post from last night. I do hope that your mum is doing ok now that she is in hospital and that she will soon be up and about again. Take care of yourself as well.

As it was such a wet miserable day yesterday I didn’t venture out. We had a really heavy hail storm at one point during the afternoon.

I need to go out in a minute up to Aldi for a few things and then into the town to collect a prescription from the pharmacy, but will be back before town gets too busy.

I’ve stripped my bedding and got it in the wm, I’m hoping that I can get it dry on the line, or at least nearly dry. Other than that, I don’t have anything that I have to do today because I caught up on most of the cleaning yesterday so may spend a quiet afternoon catching up on some of the tv programmes that I’ve got recorded.

Have a good day everyone whatever you are doing.

Morning ((((((((((hugs)))))))))) if you need one.

Gers, sorry to hear about your Mum, I hope they get to the bottom of things quickly. It sounds as though things are as bad in hospitals in Scotland as they are here, a 6 hour wait is awful especially when you are as ill as your mum obviously is.

I am off to the Drs in a few minutes, they run an emergency surgery on Saturdays, by appointment.

Techie managed to get my printer up and running, he said it was one of the worst ones he had ever set up, no wonder I could not do it!!

    No plans for the day.

Morning folks and thanks for the start NMLC.

GERS I hope your mum soon starts to pick up. It's disgusting the way she was treated before finally being admitted.

CSARINA I can sympathise. I started off like you nearly 4 years ago, you may remember, with one UTI after another. I was referred eventually to a specialist but, after numerous tests, scans and cystoscopies I was no better and no cause was found. After 3 years he discharged me on 1 antibiotic a day to try and keep them at bay, with the cheering words "you will eventually get immune to these" !! As there is only one anti b that works for me I am dreading that happening.

I finally caught up with the backlog of washing yesterday - 3 washer loads festooned around upstairs most of the day. Today I must strip our bedding (when Mr TA vacates it!) and get that washed. It's still raining so that will be getting dried indoors as well. But I refuse to go away leaving a pile of mucky bedding behind.

I didn't do a sm shop this week,we are eating up what's left in the fridge and raiding the freezer. But there are odd bits I need so will pop in town later. I have some trousers to collect from M & S too. None of the style I wanted in store so I ordered them in.

DD and the girls went to the caravan after school yesterday, staying till Sunday afternoon. It won't be much fun in the rain but they keep plenty of books, dvd's and games there to keep them occupied in such weather! We don't seem to have got our money's worth out of the site fees this summer, as none of us have got there so much with one thing and another scuppering us.

Have a good day folks and (HUGS) for the poorlies, sad and worried who want them. Hope AOD and CAMELOT are enjoying their weekends away, despite the rubbish weather. Take care all xx

    Morning all

Hugs to Csarina, Gers and anyone else in need.

I haven't posted all week as CHS has been on the early shift which means getting up at 5 and I've been boat cleaning every day after work, I have been reading along though.

We were up early this morning as we are having a new fridge delivered, so we have moved the boat to a convenient mooring and disconnected the the old fridge, we also moved an unwanted radiator from the boat too. We are all at sixes and sevens as we've had to make room for the new fridge to be wiggled through the galley into its final position.

I have another boat to clean this afternoon and then I need to clean my own boat. Nothing serious exciting planned.

    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

    Morning everyone.

Thanks for your thoughts, yesterday was rather awful though DM is now getting some medical attention and I slept like an angel last night.

Everyone at the hospital was so kind, just overwhelmed with patients. It comes from closing all the old 'local' hospitals and sending everyone to either the Royal Infirmary or the huge new QE hospital on the south side of the city.

I'll go in to see her this afternoon, it's open visiting though they asked if I could avoid the morning as it's all beds, breakfasts, doctors and consultants time. I remember it from my days (1970s) as a nurse at the now defunct Victoria Infirmary. No doubt I'll get a series of texts from DM with instructions!

It's bright and damp here. I'm going to strip DM's bed and put on fresh linen before I go out shopping. Need to tidy round, wash dishes and take rubbish to the tip.

Thanks again folks, it all helps. Happy Saturday to everyone.

    Morning everyone
Pleased its Saturday as I had a very busy day at work yesterday.
Gers - my best wishes to your mum. I find having elderly parents far more demanding and stressful than having my girls when they were little. My dad especially with his dementia.
Waiting for my washing to finish so I can get it pegged out - though its not the most cheerful looking morning, quite dull and cloudy. Then I need to walk down to the post office to send an order back to M and S. I ordered a pack of 2 bras and one was a perfect fit and the other too small! I rang and ordered a different pack and the lady I spoke to kindly reapplied the 20% discount code I'd used.
I need a little bit shopping and then I might call and visit my little great nephew. I haven't seen him for a few weeks as they were away on holiday and then I've been back to work.
Postman has just delivered my new Jamie Oliver book - I'm going to be good and not look at it till I come back, otherwise I'll not get anything done.
Hope everyone has a good day

Good Morning everyone and I do hope your Mum will soon be on the mend Gers .Its so sad when folk have to wait for treatment and our poor nurses and doctors do their best with so few funds .Too many chiefs and not enough indians I think, IYSWIM.
Our NHS used to be the envy of the world, but successive governments have run it into the ground.and the hospitals are being overwhelmed .
My best wishes to you both as it must be a great worry for you.

well the sun is up and shining at the moment and it looks quite nice outside so I think I will have a little stroll around my local park for a bit of fresh air later.I have no shopping to get as I am wading my way through a rather full freezer so my purse will be left at home.

I had a message from my niece in Mexico City where she lives and her and the family are OK thank goodness. Those poor folk in the caribbean are really going through it at the moment .The world seems to be ay sixes and sevens just now.
DGS Ben and his g/f are enjoying their time in Japan and are off to Kyoto today for a couple of days, I won't be sorry when he is safely back home again though.
Right time to get a wriggle on
have a good day chums and hopefully the sun will shine down on you all at some point today
    Take care

    Morning all,

It's chucking down and I'm ill. Thanks Son for passing the lurgy on to me. All I need now is for Grump to be ill too and I'll be doubly grateful. I never get Grumps lurgy but he always goes down with mine which means I'll want to retreat and there will be him following me round dying all over the place.

Loads of furniture left the building yesterday and I've sorted through Grumps clothing. Hopefully if I'm up to it later we will be going clothes shopping for him.

I need new clothes too at some point but I can wait.

    Onwards and forwards

    Have a great day all

    Hello everyone,

Need to catch up on the thread but wanted to send all best wishes to you and DM Gers hope that she starts to improve now she is in hospital.
Busy day yesterday as collected Lulu, she is settling in well although her eyes are on stalks a bit as, being in the fens, she can see for miles and there is a lot to see :)
Need to get the saddler out as Bill's old one is too long for her, bridle is fine so at least that's one thing won't have to buy.
We are expecting thunderstorms and high winds over next few days so at leastt the weather won't be nice while I can't ride!!
Have a good saturday folks x
