Savings as a pilot

Hi there, been living in London for a couple of years.
Being a pilot, its difficult to save up. You always get so many temptations on food, nightlife and travelling.
Been flying between europe, asia and north america.

decided 1 year ago my lifestyle can't go on like this. Started saving. at first its just a few pounds per week, gradually managed to improve my finances, saving 20%, 30% of my pay.
just want to share my experience. I am still not happy with my saving rates yet, but I am extremely joyful i started.
and this forum taught me on so much money saving tactics.

actually its been only 11 months.
hmmm what a big difference in my saving accounts.

and i have to say, i am healthier now that i dine out less and eat more home cooked meals.

I can understand how your lifestyle would make it difficult to save but well done for getting started! Everyone on here is so friendly and we all learn from each other, definitely helps

I found aiming small, meant I could find a routine with putting money away when paid then have the rest as spends /bills etc.

It then got to the point after a few months I would work out outgoing, surplus and knew how much to put away.

I also found it easier to have separate accounts, with a different bank to my main one.

Once you get into it you will then start to look for accounts with better interest rates.

Welcome. I am surprised that pilots need to save money. It's nice to have you posting though and I hope you save loads.
