Anyone got any tips about home security -recommended CCTV setups etc? I am concerned that the ones that link to Wifi can be hacked easily. The reviews of products available are crazy andmostly unhelpful. looking for any advice about CCTV that can be operated indoors looking out on to front drive

    If its indoors looking outdoors it will have to be ON all the time. (so you will need a hard drive)

    Triggering the camera thru glass is not reliable.

    Cameras with infra-red or night vision are no good if you install them inside looking out, because when the night-vision triggers when you turn your lights off, all you'll see is the reflection of the LEDs in the window and nothing on the outside. Because of this they should really be outside.

    The OP only refers the system being "operated" indoors rather than having the cameras indoors.

    I/we have a three-camera Arlo setup.

    Wireless cameras, remote control through home PC, mobile phone or tablet, camera battery life of a year or so if you buy the right batteries, motion activation, night vision, switchable to live view remotely, etc etc

    Cameras talk to base station, which goes close to broadband router, connected via ethernet.

    Easy self-install. There's limits on storage for free, but you can pay for more if you desire. No need to keep lots if motion activation is used.

    I have ARLO system as well and its fine

    The OP's has worries about wifi and being hacked?

    although possible is highly unlikely in ordinary domestic circumstances!

    Oh, and the Arlo system sends alerts and/or emails to mobile devices when motion is detected, so you can see if anyone is moving around your home before they get near the entry points.
