Hi, sorry if this post is in wrong place but i thought its fits here. Looking for advice.

Ive just come back to the UK from a holiday in SE Asia over Christmas.

First post after Christmas, i got an unusual amount of letters some signed for. First one was from Ageas insurance telling me they had cancelled my motor policy due to fraud but the car isnt mine wrong reg. I called them and all agreed this was a fraud.

Second letter was from Brown Brothers Finance thanking me for taking out £800 in finance

Third from same as above this time for £400, called them and both cancelled.

Called my bank and advised as above nothing unusual found.

Attempted to log a case with action fraud, awful website but done none the less, Police are not interested.

Thought that was it but today got another cancelled policy this time from CO-OP insurance on another different car, again not mine, so called them as well.

So, is there anything else i should be doing, other than keeping a close eye on things ?

My feeling is this wont be the last i hear of this.

None of the policies or agreements linked to my bank accounts. All policies were taken out while i was out of the country (24/25th dec)

Car Insurance fraud as you have experienced is common - I have a very thick file where people have taken out insurance using my address, paying the first instalment in cash, setting up a fictitious bank standing order. These people are driving around without insurance - have a look at some of the police programmes on the TV.

Who has access to your address ?

Is your address easy to get hold of ? As in is it posted on facebook. Its funny how it happened while you were away, did you announce it to the world you were going away ? Could be just a coincidence.

Any of your neighbours had something similar ?

Had any post go missing ?

    Check your 3 credit files.

Oh and keep the letters if you ever need them in the future.

A long shot but they could have got the address just by driving by and going for your address, if local they may have done it.

Im guessing the letters addressed to you ?

Check your credit file every week for the next 4 weeks at least, I had 2 credit cards taken in my name and they tried to intercept it via post, luckily I got it first and cancelled it.

The companies put a CIFAS marker on my file for a set period too to reduce fraud FOC

This is very common, particularly if you live in rural Scotland where premiums are cheap. They will search for a person living in one of these cheap locations then use there details to take out a policy. This gets them a certificate of insurance and gets the car on mid so it does not get pulled over. Insurers normally spot it within a week and cancel the policy. You are the innocent victim but don't need to do anything unless asked about it by the insurers in which case cooperate fully.

As said above get protective registration with CIFAS.

As for the vehicles, try declaring them SORN with the DVLA and next time they pass a police operated ANPR camera traffic police should take interest in them, though they should now be of particular interest also since you have reported insurance fraud and whoeveritis has not yet reinsured again after your report.

Wonder if the reg. numbers will be marked for stopping by the police as being involved in criminal activity - if they do that sort of thing anymore?
