Do I need to declare this claim?

Long story short,

My missus’ engagement ring is privately insured with Lloyds if London. She lost it and we made a successful £7k claim

As it is insured privately and not on a home insurance policy (I don’t hold a policy as waiting to complete on my first home purchase) do I need to add it as a registered home insurance claim when completing my quotation?

I have no intention of having the item insured inclusive of any HI policy I take out

Thanks

  • Probably as most insurers ask about claims or losses. Read the precise question being asked (and any help text) and it should be clear what the truthful answer would be. If in doubt you'll have to check with the insurer.

Don't run the risk of failing to disclose something that might come back to bite you in the future and result in a claim being refused or insurance cancelled.

Whether insured elsewhere or not, the fact that this item was lost will affect most insurers' assessment of the risk that you represent.
