30 Free Childcare Hours

Hi all,

My wife has just started back in part time work after having children. We have our youngest in nursery and have been claiming the 15 free hours. We now want to claim the 30 hours since we are both working, but are concerned on the £131 per week earning average (during a 3 month period). If she is unable to work a shift she would fall below the £131 average.

If you fall below that average does anyone know what the process is? Will the government claim back the cost of the free hours? Fine?

Any information would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

  • We have our eldest in School so unfortunately to allow for drop off and pickups she is unable to pick up much beyond the 16 hours. Her employer only need her 4 days. It is a zero hours contract, so if she doesn't take shifts over say half term that then would screw our £131 a week average.

We want our little one to be in nursery before starting school to mix with other kids etc. but they don't make it easy!
