As well as the above have a look on the tripadvisor Romania forums, loads of trip reports from trips round Transylvania, suggested itineraries which locals have appraised, tips on transport etc, it's what I used to plan my trip and it was superb. Really friendly people, cheap good quality food, accomodation and transport, beer is excellent and cheap, loads to see.

If you have a car don't miss the Transfagarasan highway which Top Gear said is the best drive in the world and I wouldn't argue. Absolutely stunning. Just be aware that Romanian drivers are very skillful being able to see round bends and over blind summits which is very useful when overtaking.
