As well as the above have a look on the tripadvisor Romania forums, loads of trip reports from trips round Transylvania, suggested itineraries which locals have appraised, tips on transport etc, it's what I used to plan my trip and it was superb. Really friendly people, cheap good quality food, accomodation and transport, beer is excellent and cheap, loads to see.0

If you have a car don't miss the Transfagarasan highway which Top Gear said is the best drive in the world and I wouldn't argue. Absolutely stunning. Just be aware that Romanian drivers are very skillful being able to see round bends and over blind summits which is very useful when overtaking.The fascists of the future will call themselves anti-fascists.0
