Cancelling Amex Platinum Card

I have an Amex Platinum Card, but have now changed to Tandem, which gives similar cashback, but with better overseas rates and no subscription. As Amex Platinum has a subscription, it is not worth keeping it as a secondary card. My question is if I cancel the card before my annual start date will I get my cashback returned. If so how.

Comments

  • Cashback is only paid at the anniversary, so if you cancel your card then you won't receive it. However amex refunds the annual fees pro rata, so wait for the cashback and then cancel the card.

I probably wouldn't cancel the card. Change it to the basic free charge card. You would still lose your points though.
