Found about this today. No idea if it does as it says on the tin but I am going to sign up, I doubt its big enough yet but who knows? One day if enough of us join and some volunteer.

Although it mentions social tenants it seems to be mostly aimed at privately renting tenants. If you read through what is on the website it seems as if social housing tenants are only mentioned once.

Yes that is the first thing I noticed. It is mainly for the private sector

The section on what the landlord must give you when you start a tenancy is lacking in information (in other words - incorrect). It just mentions the How to Rent Guide (England) and Tenant Information Pack (Scotland). No mention of EPC, Gas Safety Certificate etc.

Not impressed so far!

So who is behind this organisation ?
Who set up the website and pays for the upkeep ?
Many housing association are struggling with the massive costs of maintaining thousands of properties which are in of repair and updating.
Older housing stock need major repairs and modernization.
Staff costs, pensions and the increasing demands of tenants and every increasing material costs are pushing the budgets they have.
Plastic cladding on the outside and inside of many housing association or council owned high rise buildings could bankrupt some of these organisations.

Have a look at the Facebook page. It is all about private renting and nothing about social renting. So it doesn't represent all tenants just those in privately rented accommodation who are unhappy about it.

in principle it is a reasonable idea, after all private sector landlords have associations they can join to get proper advice, so why not tenants

clearly in this case those setting it up still have much to learn if they want to provide such equivalent support to tenants

also doubtless, as with many unions, it is those at the top of it who are the real winners since they will pay themselves more than some of the bosses of the workers who they are supposed to be helping
