Complaint - Contact Holiday Lettings

So we booked an apartment through Holiday Lettings.
Got confirmation, no apparent issues or a requirement for supplementary information
We subsequently received another email that I didn't see for 24 hours
It said there were certain restrictions, that were certainly not on the main booking page.
Restrictions were age of the guests & children, surely should not be hidden away
Net result was the booking has to be cancelled (36 hours) & we lose part of our deposit, because it was not cancelled with 24 hours
The owner says it is our problem we should have read the T & C's and we only get 50% of the deposit back.
We hadn't supplied the information within the 24 hours so why wasn't the booking immediately cancelled.
Trying to get to email Holiday lettings to complain about it,
Searched high & low on their website with no luck, any clues
Thanks

It says on their website they are part of TripAdvisor.

How did you pay the deposit? If it was by card then contact your provider for a charge back / section 75 claim0

Isn't the owner the one cancelling because they don't want you now? What would happen if you didn't cancel and said you were still happy to all use the accomodation?Don't listen to me, I'm no expert!0
