Pc won't switch on.

in Techie Stuff
Hi first of all the pc just showed as no signal then after a couple of minutes it said press the ok button within 1 minute too keep it on. I don't know where the ok button is in a pc so it went off.

When I try it now I don't even get a no signal message. We did have a short power cut would it have something to do with that anyone know please ?

It's a zoo storm one and there is power getting to it .

Any suggestions Thanks.

    Press and hold the power button for about 10 secs, then release it, wait a few secs then turn it on as usual.
    Mr Generous - Landlord for more than 10 years. Generous? - Possibly but sarcastic more likely.

    Hi I did that but I'm just getting no signal and a blue screen 😟

    Check cables

    Moniter to PC etc .
    Power cable to PC all seated home .

    Any noise / beeps on booting .

    Doesn't sound good. How do you know power is getting to it? Does the computer make any noise as already asked? If not, could be fuse in power lead.

    As already stated, look for any signs of life from the PC: a beep, any lights coming on, a fan even trying to spin etc.

    If it appears completely dead, start troubleshooting things from a power point of view:
    - look at the keyboard; does it have any LEDs shining, maybe showing the caps lock state or the state of a mode key?
    - if you plug a phone or other USB chargeable device into one of the USB ports directly on the desktop, does it appear to be receiving a charge?
    - plug some other device into the wall/adapter socket that currently supplies your PC. Does ths device power up OK?
    - replace the fuse in the PC power cord - does that help?

    If you can establish that power is clearly reaching the box, but the box is 100% dead then I would guess that (at least) the PC's power supply unit (PSU) has gone. That's easily replaceable; the question is were any other components damaged. Only one way to find that out: replace the PSU and see where you're at after that.

    Another vote for psu , should be a label on the back showing details of wattage of the unit etc. Fairly generic items so straight swap , undo 4 screws on the back swap output cable connection to various parts.

    Had same problem. If pc was running all ok. Switch off and would not turn back on.

    Had to use the hairdryer trick to blow though at the fan to get it running.

    Eventually found equivalent pcu and fitted it.

    Info was on label on pcu inside housing.

    Do you have or can borrow a compatible replacement PSU?


    It's also worth trying taking the battery out then try power up from the mains. Worked for me on an old laptop. Good luck.

    It's either the PSU or Motherboard

    If the PSU is ok try removing other hardware from the motherboard and see if it powers up.
