Refund from Internet Security

I was just wondering if anyone had any advice about getting a refund from my internet security. I got an email saying they would be auto-renewing for £65 plus £25 for VPN which was when I realised that the VPN had not downloaded properly.

I spoke to someone via their chat who confirmed it and said as it was passed 60 days he could not give me a refund but would run it now but it seemed a bit pointless with a month left of my subscription and my not taking my laptop out anyway. He said even was not able to the system would not allow him. I asked to speak to someone more senior if he was not able to but he did not put the person on.

I was like okay well if it did not run and you admit that then there is a fault surely? How can I get my money back if the internet company is not based in the UK. Is there anything I can say in particular? Any technical jargon, or legal jargon I can cite?

Many thanks!

If you haven't used it for so long, why did you wait until now to tell them that it didn't work?
  • I would tend to agree with them, you had that 60day window for refunds, and you had the rest of the time to contact them to rectify any issues with missing components.

So if you really want to point "fault" at anyone, it will be yourself for not being diligent to ensure you had received what you were paying for within a reasonable time frame.

Also, just need to add - staggered to find you're paying that much for this kind of service anyway, what does it do above and beyond any free alternative?
(Although I could be wrong, I often am.)

Why not redownload whatever VPN you have bought ??
  • £65 for “Internet Security”? The top rated Bitdefender Total Security 2019 was £25 for 5 devices for 1 year... that was the offer price last November. Renewal costs are stupidly expensive (£69 or so), cancel the auto renew, watch for an offer and buy at the offer price.

Wait until the old one reached the end of 12 months, use the activation code supplied when you ordered the discounted one. The 12 months starts from activation, not date of purchase.

Been there, done that, £5 per PC/laptop for enhanced security for 12 months is good value IMO.

Im kind of lost for words

    £65 for internet security !!

Plus £25 for VPN which, no offence but you dont sound like the user who even knows what a VPN is, never mind the use for one !!

I absolutely HATE these AV companies and the way they pray on peoples insecurities.

YOU DONT NEED TO PAY FOR INTERNET SECURITY

Chances are you already have it built into your operating system, and even if you dont, the free offerings are just as good as any paid for option.

Yes you will get users saying "but my AV came out top of this table or that table"

What you dont realise is that the difference in detection rates is mere percentage points, and you will likely never ever encounter the obscure things that are thrown at AV's during these tests.

Please take heed and just uninstall whatever it is you have paid for and dont pay them another penny.

Tell us what version of windows(?) you are using and we can tell you a free AV to use

  • I am surprised that no one has picked on the fact that
"I got an email saying they would be auto-renewing for £65 plus £25 for VPN which was when I realised that the VPN had not downloaded properly. "
When did the OP pay originally oh but...
