Understanding will

Hi

Please can you help with pecuniary legacy term 'equal. Share'

Listed on the will are 4 active executors, of which I am one.
The will states the following :-

'I give a pecuniary legacy of £20,000 to such of my executors who prove this is my will and if more than one in equal shares.' "

Please clarify the amount each executor will receive, as I understood £5k each, however the solicitor has added on the estate accounts £20k each??? I am the only executor to query this and the only executor who is also a beneficiary. Please help!! Thanks

Since the says equal shares then the solicitor is wrong assuming all for are involved and have applied for probate.

The solicitor is wrong. This wording means that the legacy of £20,000 is shared between how ever many executors prove the will (i.e. are listed on the grant of probate).

It could be a genuine mistake by the solicitor, so I would let them know asap that you think they have it wrong.
The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.

If the solicitor cannot understand that clause you have to wonder else they might mess up.
