I have never jumped through so many hoops in all my life to be granted the princely sum of £37.00 due to my late mother in laws estate.
Documents, phone calls etc required to access these small sums are amazing. I suspect the cost in officer time dealing with these refunds far exceeds the sums to be returned but that is the civil service for you!
At the same time as applying for my mother in laws refund I also applied for one for my late father too (and that was only for around half the value of the other claim)....not heard anything about that request yet.
I wouldn't count on these refunds coming through before Christmas (not sure which year though!).0 -

I didn't have to jump through any hoops. Took 5 minutes online. No documents or phone calls involved. A few weeks later the money arrived.mrwonderful_uk wrote: »I have never jumped through so many hoops in all my life to be granted the princely sum of £37.00 due to my late mother in laws estate.

I think the difference might be that both of the people concerned are deceased which then generated the need to submit the death certificates (twice.....despite sending one with the original submission), will / letters of probate and then followed up with two phone calls.
Glad yours went much more smoothly :-)0 -
Just wanted to thank Martin for bringing this to our attention, I didn't know about this until I saw his show on TV that mentioned it, and I doubt I'd have found out otherwise. I applied the same day (18th February) and have just had an email saying I'd been awarded £77.32 (£38 x 2 plus interest). So that's taken just over five and a half weeks. Not got the cash yet, but they say it will be paid in the next 15 days. My husband also applied as we both did it at the same time, but haven't had a reply about his yet.0

I found it a simple process, the money was paid back into mum's bank account very quickly. It sounds like it's more difficult if the person has died
Thank you Martin.Love living in a village in the country side0
