Health insurance help needed

HI all,
I am very lucky in that with my role I get free healthcare which (without being too dramatic) has saved the lives of at least 2 colleagues in the last few years due to the speed in which they were treated.
Last year I opted for the couple option so my husband would be covered but now realise it has cost £919 through my salary.:(
Neither of us have any pressing medical issues although hubby is on high blood pressure meds but I would like him to be covered, just confused as to benefits and pitfalls of going to a third party.
Has anyone had an experience with private healthcare? any advice gratefully received.

Hi,
We are in a similar boat... I have private health cover with Health-Online, underwritten by AXA. My husband's work have offered him BUPA cover for the same price but I don't understand how we can compare the level of cover and decide which is the best for us and our children.
Has anyone had experience of Health-Online - are they any good? I know that BUPA has a great reputation but I'm unsure how to compare the cover.
Does anyone have advice on comparing two healthcare options?
Thanks!0 -
I'm no expert on PMI, it's a specialist area of financial advice, however, one thing to remember when taking a plan through an employer is that you typically only pay the tax/NI on what the premiums would have cost you, whereas with a personal plan you (obviously) have to pay the full cost which comes out of post-taxed income. this typically makes an employer scheme far more cost effective.0

Also, most company schemes (often those with 100+ employees) are Medical History Disregarded rather than underwritten or moratorium. I pay marginally more to add my wife and children onto the company scheme but it is MHD and picks up existing conditions which would otherwise be excluded if they took their own plan.0
